Library Student Advocacy & Advisory Council

Historical notes: In April 2014, ASMNSU and the Student Fee Review Board approved the use of a portion of Student Fees to support the Library for the first time. Initial funding was designated to:

  1. Expand evening hours in Zuhl Library until 2:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.
  2. Contribute to funding Library resources.

 

The Council

The Library Student Advocacy & Advisory Council (LSAAC) is a collaboration of undergraduate and graduate students representing New Mexico State University students.

The primary task of LSAAC is to advise and provide recommendations to the Library Administration on ways to utilize funds provided by student fees, in accordance with requirements set forth annually by the Student Fee Review Board.

 

Other Council Goals:

  1. Advocate for the university library.
  2. Facilitate and strengthen communication between the university library and students.
  3. Bring ideas and issues to the attention of the university library.
  4. Provide feedback on issues such as marketing to students.
  5. Identify and initiate joint proposals or initiatives between the university library and students.
  6. Help library staff better understand students' information and research needs.
  7. Participate in library assessment of users' needs and assist in understanding the results from the student users' perspective.

 

Meeting Times

  1. The ASNMSU President and the Graduate Council President will have an orientation meeting with the Library Ex-Officio members sometime between May and the start of classes in the fall.
  2. LSAAC will meet at least twice in the fall semester and twice in the spring semester. Special meetings may be convened as needed.
  3. If student members are not able to make the scheduled meetings, there may be other opportunities to participate in the work of LSAAC either virtually or in supporting the activities of the Council.

 

Quorum

A quorum, or (4) members in attendance, is required for official business to occur.

 

Voting

A motion will carry upon majority approval. Virtual or email voting is acceptable. A motion will carry in an email vote upon receipt of (4) favorable votes. Ex-Officio members do not make motions or vote.

 

Administrative Support

Library Administration will provide any support needed for the work of LSAAC.
