Intro to Library Acquisitions

This is a guide for Library Selectors and Users to understand how Library Acquisitions works

Patron Driven Acquisitions/Demand Driven Acquisitions (PDA/DDA) at NMSU

What is PDA/DDA?

PDA is an e-book purchasing model in which a large number of e-books are loaded into the library’s online catalog, which are not paid for until they are used.

History

After PDA/DDA was discussed for several years, the PDA/DDA program at NMSU was started with a $6,000 pilot program funded by Business, Education, and Health and Social Services.  The pilot took place from January 2014 - January 2015.  Working with YBP and using their profiling system, 4,736 ebook titles were added to our catalog.  These titles do not incur a cost until they are actually used.  The file below leads to the assessment of the pilot program.

Current

With the completion of the assessment, the three charter disciplines elected to maintain the program.  In FY 16 the History selector elected to join the program.  The enrollment or disenrollment deadline for FY 17 October 31. Assessment of calendar 2015 and 2016 is under development.
