Streaming Video

A guide to the educational streaming video service for the NMSU-Las Cruces campus

Limitations of Access

Kanopy is available to the NMSU-Las Cruces Campus and NMSU-Global.

A maximum of three films are budgeted for a single class.  Exceptions may be made for film classes and NMSU-Gobal.

Titles may not duplicate items already owned by the library or freely available elsewhere.

Procedure to access Kanopy documentaries and films

The process to acquire streaming licenses for Kanopy films starts with a student or faculty member requesting a video for instructional purposes, allowing 2 weeks for processing.

  • Requestors will be asked to provide a course number. Additionally, student requests will require a professor verification of the need for the film.
    • Simultaneous requests for multiple titles will be handled as a single request.
    • Decisions will be made on a title-by-title basis.
    • Decisions will be communicated in one cumulative response to the requester.
  • If the request for purchase is approved
    • The requestor will receive a notification within 5 business days.
    • The notification will include the date the request is approved, an estimated time frame for availability, an instruction to the requestor to check availability, and a reminder that the film is available for one year.
  • If the request is denied, the requestor will receive an explanation.

How to Request Access to a Kanopy Film

If the Library does not have access to a film in Kanopy, you will see a message and screen similar to the ones below.

Please enter all the information. For the course number, please include the section/s, and in the last text box include a brief rationale (1-2 sentences) for using this film. Submit your request by clicking on the "Request Access" button.
