The New Mexico State Archives and Special Collections is pleased to announce its new exhibit area in dedication to John R. McFie. John R. McFie was prominent and instrumental in the development of Las Cruces College in 1888. A year later, McFie advocated to the New Mexico territorial legislature to establish a college of agriculture and mechanic arts in the City of Crosses in 1889 – which now is New Mexico State University. McFie was involved in the development of NMSU and his legacy continues to thrive within the campus.
If you are on the NMSU main campus, head to the Branson Library, 4th floor, and view the John R. McFie Gallery of NMSU History. The gallery features NMSU's notable historical figures such as Fabian Garcia, Clyde Tombaugh, Clara Belle Williams, Era Rentfrow, and Joe Quesenberry. Each individual listed has their dedicated area highlighting their achievements.
