In case you missed it (ICYMI), the links below document news coverage of the staff and collections at the Archives and Special Collections (ASC).  Recent published and broadcast stories highlight the Esther Chavez Cano papers and the scholarship into Orville Wanzer’s 1965 film The Devil’s Mistress.  ASC staff have also been busy producing several published pieces and presenting to the public and archival profession.  Topics include Jim Flanagan’s police photography, J. Paul Taylor’s impact on public education in Doña Ana County, the 1972 New Mexico library bond, and the Armijo family of Las Cruces.

The following video discusses unique items from two collections in the Rio Grande Historical Collections. The first item is a framed photo containing an eight-inch braid of Clara Alvarez, who died in 1913 at the age of 15. Clara is an ancestor of Rosemary Alvarez-Stutts. Rosemary is the daughter of Isidro and Emilia Alvarez, early farmers of Salem, New Mexico. The second set of photos discussed in this video is from the Amador Family papers and contains several locks of hair clipped from the deceased infants of Clotilde Amador Terrazas.
